Laura Vilar

She is a dancer, creator, teacher, and researcher, currently based in Vienna.

She holds a PhD in Philosophy from the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, with an artistic research project through and from dance. She also holds a postgraduate Master’s degree Thinking Contemporary Art (UAB) and an official Master’s in Artistic Research and Design from EINA-UAB. She completed her undergraduate studies in Humanities.

Her dance training began at Varium Dance School (1999–2003) with Anna Sánchez. Later, she joined the UAB Dance Company under Carles Salas and was awarded a scholarship with the Compañía Nacional de Danza under Nacho Duato (2001).

She is currently part of the teaching team of the Master’s in Artistic Research and Design at EINA-UAB and also teaches in the university’s Design Degree.

She co-directs nunArt, an artistic research center in Barcelona, and is a member of the Dance Pedagogy Department at the Institut del Teatre de Barcelona, where she teaches various subjects. She gives workshops and classes both nationally and internationally. From 2017 to 2021, she coordinated the Professional Training Program at the Àrea Dance School.

She works at Im_flieger, an artistic research center in Vienna, where she is the artistic director of the im_flieger@Schule project (2024 and 2026), and she also develops the international residency project Changing Spaces Vienna – BCN. Additionally, she collaborates with choreographer Eva-Maria Schaller on her piece O! Biography and with the MUK – Music and Arts University of the City of Vienna. In the field of publishing, she works with the dance-specialized publishing house 2da en Papel, curating and editing content.

As a dancer, she has worked with several companies, including Trànsit (dir. Maria Rovira, 2000–2001), La Inconnexa (dir. Anna Sánchez, 2002–2003), Lanònima Imperial (dir. Juan Carlos García, 2004), Salvatge Cor (dance-theatre company, with Jo i la dona despullada and Salvatge cor, texts by Albert Roig, 2006–2008), and Dance Theatre of Ireland (dir. Robert Connor & Loretta Yurick, Handle with Care, 2010). Her work with Compagnie Taffanel (2003–2010) and Cobosmika Company (2006–2013) is also notable. Internationally, she has performed with Russell Maliphant’s company.

She has taught classes and workshops at institutions such as Codarts (Rotterdam Dance Academy), the Linz University of Dance (Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität), the educational program Pôle Artistique Danse Perpignan (France), and professional trainings at Back Pulver Project (Vienna), Im_flieger (Vienna), Bad Lemons (Munich), nunArt (Barcelona), and APDC (Barcelona), among others. In recent years, she has presented her own creations: Sanjiao (2018), Voyager (2019), and Temptatives de (des)aparició (2022).
